"I don't sing because I'm happy, I'm happy because I sing." William James.

RESEARCH:

Don Campbell, author of 'The Mozart Effect' found that early learning occurs primarily through MOVEMENT.

The 'No Child Left Behind' Act of 2002 states that 'Studying Music encourages self- discipline and diligence traits that carry over into mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history and geography'.

According to a 1997 article in Neurological Research, Music helps prepare the mind for specific disciplines of learning; skills leaned through music carry over into study skills, communications skills, cognitive skills and abstract reasoning skills USEFUL TO ALL PARTS OF LIFE.

Findings from a study conducted by three researchers at Sam Houston State University show that parental time spent with children is a significant factor in the development of intelligence.

Now in the UK the government are back on board with providing funding and opportunities for Early Years Music and encouraging making music as a famiLy in the home. As a Kindermusik Educator I am convinced that regular MUSIC MAKING IN THE HOME creates better lives for all involved.

Hope we get to make music with you :)

A little bit about Ali as a piano/keyboard teacher::

Ali has been teaching pupils since she was 18 years old, at Leeds University, over 23 years ago.

She started learning instruments herself at a young age and from the age of 9 was involved in playing in local orchestras, bands and singing in the school choir.

She worked at a local Saturday Music School every Saturday during school terms during her University years which is no mean feat if you think of how students like to enjoy themselves on a Friday night.

On graduating, she obtained a postion as Music Curriculum Co-Ordinator at a London primary school and taught school pupils the piano after school and in her lunchtimes.

Later, when she had started to focus solely on the subject of music, she trained in a piano teaching method called 'Colourkeys' which encourages the use of singing songs to help to learn to play tunes and teaches pitch and rhythm using special ptich and rhythm languages to make these skills easy and fun to master. She also focuses on developing musicality - developing techniques to play sweetly or fiercely as the music dicatates. Beetoven himself said to his pupils that he would rather the rhythm and dynamics to be right rather than the notes - musicality matters!

Today, Ali uses the Bastien method to introduce the piano or keyboard to Dorset children. She supplements this method with early jazz tunes, duet playing, learning to sight read and the preparing and taking of the ABRSM practical piano examinations.

She is a member of the ABRSM and the Musician's Union.

Young pupils wanted:

She is very keen to find children still in key stage 1 (rising 5 to 7yrs) who like to sing, to teach the piano/keyboard to. If you have a child that loves to sing and you think could enjoy the piano/keyboard then please do get in touch.

This does not mean that she will turn anyone else away. She loves to teach piano/keyboard to anyone - child or adult who wishes to explore if they have an aptitude to the piano/keyboard.

So you or your child is expressing an interest to learn - WHAT NOW?

1. Call up to have a chat.

On the phone we can go over important info. such as age of child, what days and times you would be available to have a lesson and what books and resources will be needed.

2. That first visit.

From our phonecall we can arrange a day and time for me to come and meet you and your child in your own home. During the visit you and your child will find out if I am a suitable teacher for them and to finalise lesson day and time. This visit is kindly free of charge.

3. Lessons in short blocks of 5 weeks..

The first 5 weeks then is a try out period for all. Within this time you will discover how your child takes to formal lessons - how they follow instruction, commits to frequent practise between lessons and most important their levels of enjoyment and motivation to learn.

After the first 5 weeks is completed, you and I will then decide whether everything is working well and to continue or to review and make changes to increase the quality of the learning process or to stop lessons completely.

Payment will always be 5 weeks in advance or in half term blocks, whichever is easier for you.

If you are interested in taking up lessons with then please do get in touch.
