"I don't sing because I'm happy, I'm happy because I sing." William James.

RESEARCH:

Don Campbell, author of 'The Mozart Effect' found that early learning occurs primarily through MOVEMENT.

The 'No Child Left Behind' Act of 2002 states that 'Studying Music encourages self- discipline and diligence traits that carry over into mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history and geography'.

According to a 1997 article in Neurological Research, Music helps prepare the mind for specific disciplines of learning; skills leaned through music carry over into study skills, communications skills, cognitive skills and abstract reasoning skills USEFUL TO ALL PARTS OF LIFE.

Findings from a study conducted by three researchers at Sam Houston State University show that parental time spent with children is a significant factor in the development of intelligence.

Now in the UK the government are back on board with providing funding and opportunities for Early Years Music and encouraging making music as a famiLy in the home. As a Kindermusik Educator I am convinced that regular MUSIC MAKING IN THE HOME creates better lives for all involved.

Hope we get to make music with you :)

About Ali Lunn - aka - 'Ally Pally' .

My name is Ali Lunn and I have recently moved down from South London, Battersea to Poole in Dorset.

I have loved music from as far back as I can remember...and dance too! I used to wile away the hours dressed up in my mum's old nightgowns, pretending I was in showbusiness dancing to music coming from the testcard on the television. If you don't know what the testcard was by the way, do ask me and if you too danced to the testcard then let me know as I always like to discover fellow testcard divas!!

Between the ages of 8 and 12 I was engaged in musical activity on a daily basis; recorder, clarinet, cello tuition, recorder ensembles, wind band, orchestra, string group, choir and so on. During my teenage years I was a member of the Harrow School of Young Musicians and was priviledged to play at the Royal Albert Hall and to go on a concert tour of Germany and Austria.

I trained as a Primary School Teacher and taught for 4 years sharing the role of Music Co-Ordinator, leading the School's Junior Choir and heading up the Infant Department's Singing Class as well as running Recorder lunchtime groups and providing my own classes with rich musical experiences including a very Rock 'n' Roll Musical about The Tudors. I have also worked as a 'nanny' and entered the field of Early Years Music after this experience. I observed and then was trained by the director of The Music House For Children in Shepherd's Bush, London and I started teaching music in nursery schools in West London devising my own teaching curriculums which I use in my pre-school classes to date.

The nannying had enabled me to build up a good network of mums with children and I also began to provide instrumental tuition on a weekly basis.

I love having music in my life and feel so priviledged to be in a postition to impart this love on to others. I am hugely grateful for all the dedicated teachers that have instructed me - Valerie King (Longfield Middle School, Harrow, London), Pam Moody (Cello teacher - Harrow - On-The Hill)and Emma Hutchinson (Director of Music House For Children) - you inspired me the most and are the reason I am the teacher I am today!
