"I don't sing because I'm happy, I'm happy because I sing." William James.

RESEARCH:

Don Campbell, author of 'The Mozart Effect' found that early learning occurs primarily through MOVEMENT.

The 'No Child Left Behind' Act of 2002 states that 'Studying Music encourages self- discipline and diligence traits that carry over into mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history and geography'.

According to a 1997 article in Neurological Research, Music helps prepare the mind for specific disciplines of learning; skills leaned through music carry over into study skills, communications skills, cognitive skills and abstract reasoning skills USEFUL TO ALL PARTS OF LIFE.

Findings from a study conducted by three researchers at Sam Houston State University show that parental time spent with children is a significant factor in the development of intelligence.

Now in the UK the government are back on board with providing funding and opportunities for Early Years Music and encouraging making music as a famiLy in the home. As a Kindermusik Educator I am convinced that regular MUSIC MAKING IN THE HOME creates better lives for all involved.

Hope we get to make music with you :)

Music & Movement Policy

Choosing a Class:

Each class is designed specifically for a particular age group taking into account particular developmental needs. Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the term for the class in which you are enrolling. If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, I am happy to discuss your child's needs and to work with you to place him / her in the best suited class.

----------------------------------------------------Trial Classes:

The school only wants prospective clients who are genuinely interested in bringing music into their child's life so we do not offer free classes. However you may try up to three sessions consecutively, paying weekly, while you decide whether The Ally Pally School of Music is the right learning setting for your needs.

----------------------------------------------------Registration:

If you are interested in booking a class then my advice is not to delay. Class sizes are limited and there are often discounts if you do register early.

-------------------------------------------------------Sibling Discounts:

We really want young children to make music and so we offer an amazing price of just £1 for any sibling attending the same class as the first child (£2 for 5 to 7 yrs). Sibling attending a different class pay just 50% of the class fee.

------------------------------------------------------Enrollment Confirmation:

A registration form and payment must be received before your place in class is secured. Once both of these have been received you will receive confirmation in the form of a phonecall, email or leter. Your place in the class will then be secure.

------------------------------------------------------Payments and Refunds:

We offer a range of payment options; weekly, half and full termly. Discounts and gifts are offered for clients who enrol for at least a term at a time. Rearding refunds only if the teacher or organisation where the class is being held is at fault will a refund be issued.

Make-up classes:

If you miss a class and there is a space available for the same class on another day then you may take that place.

-----------------------------------------------------------Non-enrolled siblings:

If you have a child young or old enough to stay contented during a class without disruption then you may bring them along. This will always be at the teacher's discretion and I ask that you please respect their decision if they feel it necessary for the sibling to be removed for the sake of the success of the class.

-----------------------------------------------------------When To Arrive:

The doors to the class will open 10 minutes prior to it starting. All lessons will have prompt beginnings. Please try and arrive in plenty of time to make toilet visits, eat snacks and be ready to engage. Toys, dummies, snacks, juice cups during class time is actively discouraged.

-----------------------------------------------------------Participation And Dress Code:

Be sure to dress comfortably and appropriately for moving freely. Please be prepared to be fully involved. When you are an active focused enthusiastic participant in the class your child will model your actions and focus more fully too. Do let us know if you have any physical difficulties so we can accomodate you effectively.

-----------------------------------------------------------Expectations Of The Class:

It is not unusual for a child to feel uncomfortable in class initially. Please do not be discouraged - What a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The understanding and consistency of the parent or carer in class and at home
are key to facilitate musical learning and growth.

-----------------------------------------------------------Exclusion Of Liability:

The Ally Pally School of Music shall be in no way liable to the parents, carers or child for any loss, damage, liability, claim or expenses of any nature whatsoever save in respect of any warrenties, terms or conditions which are provided by statute to be non - excludable (as to death or personal injury caused by negligence).
